Yet to be identified gunmen on Thursday, 1st July, 2021, killed a transport businessman – Mr. Simon Bitrus Mapak in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Mapak, 47, was ambushed at about 8pm local time, near his house in Mbar village, and shot to death, family sources say.
“He was driving home on his car and was ambushed by the assailants who we learn had pinned down in the shrubs, anticipating his arrival,” said a relation.
The father of eleven had reported receiving death threats, forcing him to temporarily relocate from the village, it was learnt. He had just returned to the village when he was killed by persons believed to be hired assassins.
“His neighbor said he heard him pleading with the killers to spare his life and have anything they wanted, after they shot him and he ran out of the car but they still killed him, leaving all his valuables behind,” a source said.
Mapak was said to have abandoned school after graduating from secondary school in the early 1990s, to venture into farming, from where he started a transport business which became one of the most successful in Bokkos LGA.
