Police have confirmed the murder of Mr. Hashimu Mantu, brother to former Deputy Senate President, Nasiru Mantu in Plateau.

Mantu, a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party and village Chief in Gindiri was on Saturday found ‘motionless’ in his hometown, Chanso, Gindiri in Mangu Local Government Area and confirmed in hospital to be dead, Police say.

Laying close to his body when found was his “mobile phone and a stick”, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tyopev Terna said Monday in a press statement.

The Plateau Police Public Relations Officer did not state the cause of death in detail but locals say Mantu was dragged out of his house at night by hoodlums and killed in a nearby bush.

“The gunmen stormed his residence in Chanso Town, Gindiri, Mangu LGA, and forcefully took him out to the bush rained a hell of bullets before slaughtering him,” a source said.

Photographs of the corpse being circulated on social media show deep machete cuts on his head and other parts of the body.

The Police statement states no arrest has been made but pleads for useful Intel from locals to help track the ‘criminals.’
