A breakaway faction of the Plateau Publishers Association (PPA) has been declared illegal, by the Incorporated Trustees of the body.
The new rival group was formed after the State Governor, Simon Lalong and Director General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Mr. Joseph Ari reconciled a months-old conflict in the union, said Mr. Amos Gizo, the Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman and Electoral Committee (ELCOM) Chairman of Association.
Gizo said in a press conference on Saturday; “The PPA came into being as a result of the Chief Amb Nanyah Andrew Daman, the erstwhile Chairman of the Plateau Independent Publishers Association (PIPA) stepping down, in a reconciliatory meeting in the office of the Director General of the Industrial Training Fund conveyed through the instructions of the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong, through the former Chief of Staff, John Dafaan following a proliferation of Publishers Associations then.
“With the counsel of the Governor, the then Chief of Staff, and diplomacy of Sir Joseph Ari, all three associations agreed to merge into one with the three groups nominating members into the 7 man caretaker and election committee.
“After about one and a half years in office, members asked the Exco to step down and the Shabul Mazadu five man caretaker committee was put in place with the mandate to conduct elections in six months. Two weeks into the expiration of their tenure, when Shabul Mazadu called a meeting to brief the PPA members of the success and challenges of their tenure, the members passed a vote of no confidence on them which brought the Chief Amos Gizo 5 member electoral committee to conduct a fresh election after six months.
“In anger, but after successfully inaugurating the ELCOM and agreeing with the steps taken by the Congress, Shabul Mazadu, Genius Nanfa Daman, Danjuma , Tom Kuba and Orgak Walbe formed another group in defiance of the ITF agreement and disrespect for the Executive Governor of Plateau State as well as the former Chief of Staff.”
Gizo maintained that his faction is authentic, flaunting certificates of registration with Corporate Affairs Commission. He also announced plans to hold elections in August.
