Officials in Plateau State say contrary to public insinuations, no “isolation center” has been cited in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the State.
“What we have is an observation centre,” Chairman of the LGA, Ezekiel Mandyau said, Monday.
A coalition of native associations in Barkin Ladi on Saturday alleged that a popular hotel in the locality had been converted to a coronavirus “isolation center” against standard protocols.
The Coalition of Concerned Heipang Health Professionals, Berom Youth Moulders’ Association and Development Associations in Heipang Community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in a communiqué after a meeting insisted that quarantine centres must be far from residential buildings.
The communiqué signed by Mr. David Bot says workers in the facility mingle with the villagers posing health threat.
But the facility in question, Mr. Mandyau said “is not sharing fence with any residents and workers are routinely disinfected before the going into or out of the center.
More so, “none of those brought there has so far exhibited any symptoms to warrant isolation or testing,” said the LG Chairman.
Government, Mandyau said is taking all necessary precautions to ensure public safety and needs citizens’ cooperation.
