Jos, Nigeria: Two civilian natives of Hoss Community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State were Wednesday gunned down by suspected herdsmen.

The attack at about 9pm followed reported threats by local herders to attack native villages in retaliation to the arrest of their kinsmen believed to have ambushed three soldiers on patrol.

The soldiers were attacked in Ex-Land village of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi LGA during an evening patrol last Sunday.

Two of them were killed while one survived with deadly injuries, it was gathered.

The Special Task Force which assigned the mission raided a Fulani hamlet hours later and arrested some suspects in connection to the ambush, a top military source hinted.

During the raid however, some houses belonging to the herders were reportedly torched creating tension in the surrounding communities.

Some locals reported threats of attacks in retaliation to the raid.

No violence has however occurred in the Local Government of the incident but neighboring Riyom LGA.

It is not sure if the attack on the two natives of Hoss is connected to the threats.
