Plateau set for polls in four suspended LGAs

Jos, Nigeria: The Plateau State Government has allocated one billion naira for the conduct of elections in four earlier suspended Local Government Areas.

The State had in October 2018 conducted elections in 13 Local Government Areas, exempting four northern LGAs over insecurity.

The State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Sylvester Wallamko, on Monday announced that N1bn fund had been reserved in the 2020 budget for the purchase of electoral materials by the State Independent Electoral Commission.

At the public breakdown of the approved 2020 budget of over N177bn, the Commissioner did not give a date for the much anticipated polls.

The State Governor, Simon Lalong had in October 2019 appointed Chairmanship candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress to head the affected LGAs – Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos North and Jos South for three months.

The move was widely criticized but the appointments were renewed for another three months in January 2020.
