The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship flag-bearer in Plateau State, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang has come under the fire of his party faithful for ‘disparaging’ a prominent member of the party, Augustine Timtuk in a public speech.

“We think that with what he has said about our colleague, he is saying clearly that we can keep our votes,” says a statement by a leader of the aggrieved group, Mr. Nimdul Gamde.

The statement cites Mutfwang’s speech at the inauguration of a campaign council in Pankshin town on 2nd December. Mutfwang was reacting to the dismissal of a suit filed by Mr. Timkuk challenging an earlier Primary election held for the Langtang North-North Constituency of the Plateau State  House of Assembly which he contested but lost.

“Barrister Mutfwang threw caution to the wind and said clearly that Augustine was an Agent of the APC in Plateau State.

“We expected [him] to have respected his resolve to go for fair hearing than casting aspersion on his character.

“We wonder what manner of a leader that Barrister Mutfwang would be with his level of intolerance,” said the statement sent to MKR by WhatsApp.

The group explained that Mr. Timkuk had lost his suit for filing late, noting the politician was a loyal party faithful.

“Augustine Timkuk had approached the Federal High Court sitting in Jos to determine whether Nannim Joseph [whom he lost the primaries to] was validly nominated or otherwise.

“In her ruling, Justice  Dorcas Agishi simply said [the suit] was filed out of time. It was so dismissed.

“We disagree with the reckless submission of Barrister Mutfwang and we condemn this in the strongest terms as he does not know the person of Mr. Augustine Timkut.

“Mr Timkuk is a loyal party member and had toiled for several years to deliver the candidates of the party in his Ward-Lipchok ward to the PDP. Augustine who is selfless in his political approach, bought his nomination form for the contest with his hard-earned money and traversed the length and breadth of his constituency from the same source. He did not rely on any Godfather like Mutfwang. He filed his suit after he was denied fair hearing by the internal machinery of the party,” the group said.

It also refuted claims Timkuk had been suspended from the party.

“Mr. Angustine Timkuk was notified of his suspension from the party by a so-called Ward Chairman who claims to be that of Lipchok Ward. The text was badly written and the group that did this lacks legitimacy and cannot claim to be officials of the party in Lipchok Ward. The Ward Executive Committee of Lipchok Ward in Langtang North local government is in dispute and is before the Appeal Court in Jos.

“We also condemn this in strong terms. Mr. Augustine in exercising his right to fair hearing cannot be intimidated by a few impostors who continue to parade themselves as party officials in spite of several Judgments of competent courts of Jurisdiction. As far as we are concerned, it is an exercise in futility.

“We implore the public to disregard the purported suspension as it is null and void of no effect. We urge Mr. Augustine Timkuk to pursue his cause with vigour as we are fully behind him in his pursuit of Justice. It’s a fundamental right that nobody can deny him.”

Mr. Mutfwang has yet to respond to these claims.
