Plateau IDP returning from digging grave for late Aunty’s burial crushed to death

A Central Nigerian farmer displaced by herdsmen attacks in June 2018, Mr. James Miango Dalyop was Wednesday crushed to death by an over-speeding vehicle shortly after digging a grave for his late Aunty’s burial.
Dalyop, 38, had his 19year-old unofficial marriage sanctified in Church in March 2020, five months after his brother was killed along with two others in a renewed attack in Riyom LGA.
State authorities had claimed that peace had returned after the June 2018 murder of over 300 locals in series of attacks that lasted over a week in Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs.
Late Miango’s brother, Mr. Solomon Dalyop and his friends were ambushed while returning from a tour of their rubbled homes in Gaku hamlet of Jol village, in Riyom District, preparatory to their return.
Miango was the one taking care of his slain brother’s wife and children in his small house built in Turu village, near Riyom LGA headquarters with proceeds from his few farm crops that survived the attacks.
When his aunt, Mrs. Asabe Pam Mwanjos died from cardiac arrest on Tuesday, he was one of few family members that volunteered to dig the grave for her burial.
Shortly after digging the required depth in Vwak village, the headquarters of Jol community, Miango took off on motorcycle to prepare for the funeral ceremony scheduled for the next day, but was knocked down near Riyom LGA secretariat.
At his general on Friday, hundreds of sympathisers, men included, wept openly, suggesting that the late father of three was widely appreciated.
