The Senator representing Plateau South in the Nigerian National Assembly, Ignatius Longjan has died five weeks after rumors of his death began circulating.
Longjan was rumoured to have died since January 4, 2020 at a foreign hospital.
The rumours however remained within private conversations until Monday when they became public.
The death of the Senator after “protracted illness” is “devastating”, says the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong.
In a press statement through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Simon Macham said the Senator’s death is a “huge loss” to the entire State.
Lalong said, “we have lost a man of honour and candour who in all his affairs always put the interests of Plateau State first.
“His humility, humanity and wealth of wisdom was always at display when he weighed on any issue that concerns people. We will surely miss him”.
A retired Diplomat, the late Senator Longjan was the Senate Committee Chairman on Culture and Tourism.
He was once a Chief of Staff and Deputy Governor in Plateau State.
