Plateau: Barkin Ladi launches COVID-19 prevention team

Authorities of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Central Nigeria’s Plateau State, Monday set up a committee for the prevention of COVID-19 in the LGA.

The committee comprises Awareness and Advocacy, Enforcement, Medical facilities and Health services as well as Secretariat and Logistics subdivisions.

The team is to ensure strict adherence to approved standards for prevention, as well as proper public sensitisation on the dissase.

It is also expected to liaise with relevant Government agencies for the procurement of necessary kits and facilities for the management of the virus.

Mr Ezekiel Mandyau, the Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government at the inauguration of the committees sought for public partnership in the fight against the disease.

Mandyau, who is the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, said, “Coronavirus is a dangerous and deadly disease that we must all take seriously and prevent it from surfacing here in Barkin-Ladi.”

Plateau State has yet to record any case of the virus. Authorities in the State and LGA had banned public gatherings of more than 50 persons, market and mining activities among others.

Responding on behalf of members of the newly commissioned committees, the Local Government Council Secretary, Capt. Dusu Nyam (rtd), pledged to explore all options to meet the LGC’s expectations.
