Gunmen believed to be hired assassins on Sunday killed Nigeria’s national Vice President, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Mr. Adams Zakka Malau.
Mr. Malau, a local community Chief was shot dead in his residence in Ngoksar village, 3kms south of Bokkos Local Government Secretariat, it was gathered.
His killers stormed the remote village at about 7:30pm local time shooting into the air, local sources say.
“As everyone scampered for safety, they went straight to the Chief’s house and shot him,” an anonymous nephew to the 62 year-old told MK.
MK gathers that shortly after the serving Principal of Government Secondary School, Mbar, Bokkos LGA was killed, a 22 year old man was said to have been killed in neighboring Tangur village.
Mr. Marvelous Yelwa was shot dead while running home after the gun blasts in Ngoksar.
He was believed to have been killed by the same gang that killed the ASUSS official.
This is the third suspected assassination of influential persons in Bokkos this year.
A village Chief was killed in May, followed by a ruling Party official in June.
Both were killed near the Plateau State University, Bokkos by yet to be identified gunmen.
“As long as there is no deterrence, killers will kill and walk away free – to kill again…and again,” says a former Government Official, Yiljap Abraham.
“As long as communities do not take ownership of their security through community vigilance, marauders will raid and go unchallenged,” the former Commissioner of Information, and later Tourism said in a social media post, Monday.
State Officials have yet to comment on the incident.
