Niger to build 20,000 employee waste recycling plant

Central Nigerian authorities have completed plans to set up a 20,000 staff capacity waste recycling plant in Niger State.
The plant to be run alongside a Ghanian firm, Zoom Lion Acra, will boost state income, and rid local towns of disease causing dirt, Niger State Commissioner for Environment, Barr. Mohammed Zakari told Journalists on Wednesday.
At least 10,000 tricycles will be acquired for waste collection across major towns and the State capital, said the Commissioner.
The wastes collected will according to Mr. Zakari be converted to manure, plastic and other household materials.
Until its takeoff, public sanitation will henceforth be observed across the State every month end, he said.
Zero Lassa Fever case
The Niger State Commissioner for Health and Hospital Services, Dr. Muhammad Makun Sidi has declared that there is no Lassa Fever report in the State as recently rumored.
Disease surveillance centres in the State have been long equipped with free drugs for treatment and prevention of the decease, Sidi said.
The State is currently processing a N1.3 billion pack with Bill Melinda Gate foundation to upgrade grassroots health centres and check maternal, infant mortality, he added.
