Governor Sani Bello of Niger State has acquired 12 security patrol vans and 120 motorcycles for vigilante use in the State.
The equipment will be used to fight armed banditry in worse-hit Rafi, Munya, Shiroro and Mariga Local Government Areas.
The conflicts have persisted due to shortage of manpower in the Federal security system, Gov. Bello said, Monday.
“Shortage of manpower is responsible for increase insecurity in the state and the country in general.
“We have decided to use the vigilante group who know the nook and crannies of the affected areas,” he said.
The bandits, Bello said may have shifted base due to the Federal government’s announced planned airstrikes in their hideouts.
The governor said, “the information is already on social media and if the air force go there now the may not find the bandits because they are already aware.”
