Niger: Bandits kill six, abduct three in New Year Day attack

Six people have been killed and three others kidnapped in separate attacks in Niger state within the last 24hrs.
Five of those killed, Thursday were returning from their farm near Toyota Canter in Babban- Rami village while the 6th person was killed at Sabonrijiya in the Mashegu local government area of the state, it was learnt.
Those kidnapped, Friday were ladies taken from their house in Barakuta in the Bosso local government area of the state.
It was gathered, that the bandits, riding motorcycles opened fire on a vehicle carrying the five farmers, killing all and injuring one other.
According to sources, the bandits fled after the attack without carrying any valuable.
It is believed that the same bandits killed the sixth person in Sabon Rijiya village while retreating.
Last week, bandits attacked Maitumbi area, few kilometers to the Palace of the Emire of Minna.
In that attack, two people were kidnapped and scores injured.
Police could not be reached for comments. However, Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane confirmed the latest attack condemning it as “barbaric”.
Matane said the Niger state government is investigating the attacks.
