Nigerian Officials have approved payment of salaries owed workers of an old regional publication, New Nigeria newspaper.
The salary payment is part of a move by the government to revive the dying newspaper, Chairman of Nigeria’s Northern Governors’ Forum said, Monday.
“This (salary payment) will enable a final decision to be taken on the future of (New Nigeria newspaper) one of the oldest newspaper in the country,” said Lalong in a meeting with Secretaries to the country’s Northern State Governments.
Lalong who is the Governor of Plateau State sued for unity among States in the region for collective progress.
Lalong said, “As Governors of the region, we are well aware of the challenges we face related to security, economy, education, health, agriculture, employment and infrastructure among others.
“While we individually address these challenges within our various States, we also realise that working together will give us faster and better results.
“If we do not work in synergy and collaboration with one another, it will be difficult to tackle issues of insecurity which manifest in insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, violent clashes and attacks of innocent persons”.
The SSGs were in Plateau State to review previous reports on security, economic development, education, health, investment, and youth employment in the region, Secretary to the Government of Kaduna State, Mr. Balarabe Abbas Lawal said.
