The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) says Governor Simon Lalong’s “uncommon leadership skills which include humility, discipline and tolerance” are worth emulating.
Lalong’s “disposition and commitment” to peace building particularly singles the Governor out among equals, a statement issued by the Union’s Chairman, Mr. Paul Jatau and Secretary, Peter Amine on Wednesday said.
“NUJ finds your resolve to complete projects initiated by your predecessors as exemplary. The NUJ wishes to encourage you to continue to strive to improve on the state infrastructure for the good of Plateau people,” the statement says in honor of the Governor’s 58th birthday.
The union particularly lauded the Governor for funding the remodelling of its 35year-old Secretariat in Jos.
Members of the Plateau State Executive Council have also described Governor Lalong as a gift to Plateau State and Nigeria. “He has used every opportunity in public office to serve the people particularly the vulnerable and marginalised,” said the officials on Wednesday in Jos while celebrating the Governor on his birthday.
Mr. Sonni Tyoden, the State Deputy Governor said on behalf of the team during a visit to the Governor, that Lalong’s Administration has achieved “a lot” in the areas of peace, infrastructural development, human capital development, tourism and agriculture.

The Governor in a response appreciated the State Executive Council and entire people of the State for supporting his Government.
“I would not have been able to achieve anything in life or even as a Governor without the support and cooperation of the people,” he said.
Chaplain of the Government House Chapel and Bishop-elect of Lafiya Diocese Rev. Fr. David Ajang prayed for the Governor and his family during the visit.
