A Central Nigerian State Legislator, Mr. Musa Agah says over 40 of his constituents have been killed this year by herdsmen.
“We are not contesting for land or anything with them, but they keep attacking us,” said Mr. Agah, the Plateau House of Assembly member representing Rukuba/Irigwe Constituency of Bassa Local Government Area.
The attacks have persisted, largely due to government negligence, Agah told Journalists.
“The State Governor (Simon Lalong) has not said anything on these attacks. Even in his State addresses. He never mentions them as if it is not human lives that are affected,” the Lawmaker said.
Mr. Agah is not the only one with this opinion.
“I am losing many of my people every day,” said the Village Chief of Kwall District, Rev. Ronku Aka (rtd) at tjr scene of one of the attacks.
Government, Ronku said “keeps making promises to secure our communities but we still see them (assailants) coming and carrying out attacks unchallenged,”
On May 30, 2020, five people including a female food vendor were killed in Agah’s constituency (Nzharuvo village, 15miles west of Jos, the capital of Plateau State) by gunmen suspected to be herders.
On April 19, 2020, dozens of AK-47 bearing men killed four in a Plateau bordering community (Ntiriku village of Kamuru Chiefdom, in Kauri Local Government Area) dominated by Lawmaker Agah’s tribesmen.
Five days earlier – April 14, 2020, Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen killed nine of Mr. Agah’s constituents in Maiyanga village of Kwall District, Bassa Local Government Area.
April 8, 2020 before the Maiyanga village attack, armed assailants killed four people including a newly ordained Pastor of Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, Pastor Matthew Tagwai, in Ngbra-Zongo village, northwest of Meyango, the Kwall District headquarters.
On 31st March 2020, three people including a pregnant woman were killed in Ncha village, located 5miles away from Ngbra-Zongo village.
The next day, 1st April, 2020, three others were killed in neighbouring Nkiedow-hro village and seven in Hukke village.
