“Heavy floods” threaten Plateau communities
1 min read
The Plateau state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says it has received signals of possible overflow of rivers in the State leading “heavy flooding”.
The signals received from the National Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources according to a broadcast by NEMA specifically warn citizens living around flood prone areas to relocate “immediately” to avoid losses.
It equally demands that citizens clear all drainages within their vicinities to allow free flow of water as rains intensify.
The disaster body also calls on relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as Local Government Councils among others to activate prevention, mitigation, preparedness and response mechanisms to complement its efforts.
