Gen. Yakubu Gowon: What Better Way To Appreciate a Selfless Leader? By Godman Gonet

Gen. Yakubu Gowon is a former Head Of State (Head of the Military Government) of Nigeria from 1 August 1966 to 29 July 1975. He is of the Ngas extraction of Plateau State and was born on 19 October 1934.
Meaning by 19 October 2019,he turned 85 years, part of which was dedicated for National Service while in and out of office. The name Gen.
Yakubu Gowon is not one to be quickly forgotten in the history of Nigeria, mainly for these reasons:
Firstly, for sustaining the unity of this great country at the moment it was ready to disintegrate. For selfless leadership.
His tentacles made him saw a “ONE NIGERIA” devoid of hatred and bitterness. Little wonder, the admiration he gets by many Nigerians (both young and old)…And the love he receives from the Government (past and present) no surprise the almost unwarranted access he gets to the Presidency irrespective of the party in power.
From his quiet lifestyle,it suggest the retired Army General may not be the speaking type to makes bold a request from Mr. President. But as a concerned Nigerian, Kanke Local Government Area as the very home town of the Octogenarian is in desperate need of a Federal presence.
As it stands, the Nigeria Police Force the only Federal presence in the area and with only one Division.
To drive home the points,a request to President Muhammadu Buhari to allocate a “Federal University of Science and Technology” in honour of the Former Head of State in Kanke Local Government Area:
YAKUBU GOWON UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, KANKE.
This will be enough appreciation a country can afford to a selfless leader.
Enough appreciation to Plateau people for producing such a son and a leader as Gowon.
This is a call on Plateau people across kind and kindred to support this noble course to an actualization.
