First coronavirus case confirmed in Plateau

The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed an index Coronavirus case in Plateau State.

The case is a woman, 20, who escaped from Kano during the just relaxed lockdown in the State, it was learnt.


She was according to sources arrested and isolated for testing on Wednesday after she attended a wedding in Mangu Local Government Area and retired to her home village near Pankshin Local Government Area.


Her test result with Lab number NVRI-COV-137 and Epistemology Number NIE-PLS-JJN-20-004 came out positive on Thursday shortly after the State Governor, Simon Lalong announced a resumption of the lockdown in four days.

Her result along with 78 new cases in Lagos, 14 in FCT, 5 in Ogun, 4 in Gombe, 3 in Borno, 2 in Akwa Ibom, and 1 in Kwara as confirmed by the NCDC raise Nigeria’s confirmed cases by 108.

This brings total confirmed cases in Nigeria to 981 as of 11:59pm, Thursday, from 873 the previous day.

Total discharged patients according to the NCDC are now 197 with 31 deaths so far
