Over 13,000 IDPs are currently in makeshift cramps, with some taking menial and housekeeping jobs to survive, said the representative of Barkin Ladi/Riyom consistency in the Nigerian House of Reps on Saturday.

Most of the rapes take place when the girls go out for these jobs, Mwadkon told Journalists in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

“They are raped but they have to keep themselves busy because they have to find something to eat,” said the Rep member.

The government according to him has shown little concern for the IDPs and the safety of their homes.

Three days ago, two people were killed in what appeared to be resurging attacks in Vatt community of Foron District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The government, Nwadkon said knows the attackers but has failed to track them.

In his words, the government has proved unwilling to arrest the attackers in

He said, “The hypocrisy within the Nigerian context is so high.

“Everybody knows that Fulani have been attacking communities.

“Even the government in Nigeria, the least person in government is aware of this.

“We hope that the government will do something.

“It’s becoming a national issue. Its no longer a Plateau or Middle Belt issue. Its affecting virtually every community.”

Over 200 people were killed last year June in three days of sustained attacks in Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs.

Community groups place the number of displaced persons at over 130,000 while state officials said 30,000.

Over 50 native villages are said to have been sacked and reoccupied by armed herdsmen in the attacks that have persisted for over a decade.
