National Coordinator of Prayer Force Network, a Nigerian Christian group, Mr. John Pofi has asked the Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong to withdraw his “unguided, uncivil and precarious” comments alleging that local farmers carry arms as killer herdsmen.

Lalong, Tuesday said on live TV, that farmers carry firearms for self-defense.

His comments are “inciting”, said Mr. Pofi. “This is unbecoming of the Chief Executive of a State whose peace is being threatened and people are being killed in their numbers on daily basis,” Pofi said in a press statement.

“These poor farmers can hardly afford two meals a day. Yet, are being accused of buying and carrying guns that are far beyond their reach.

“Last week, over six poor farmers were gruesomely murdered in Zirshe Village of Kwall Miango, Bassa LGA. This has been a recurring decimal the people have come to accept and have been living with.

“Today, we have over 50 communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Bassa LGAs of the State that have been forcefully taken over by killer herdsmen.

“These poor farmers can hardly afford two meals a day. Yet, are being accused of buying and carrying guns that are far beyond their reach,” said the group leader.

Pofi also accused Gov. Lalong of lying that two Local government councils in the state are headed by Fulani tribesmen.

He asked the Governor to “immediately” withdraw the comments and tender a national apology “if he truly wants the majority of the people of Plateau State to forgive him for such careless, clueless and inciting comments.”
