The Plateau Peace Building Agency says many States have requested to copy its model for the resolution of farmer-herder conflicts.

Kaduna State Peace Commission was first to copy, Director General of the Peace Building Agency, Mr. Joseph Lengmang said, Thursday.

“Kaduna State came here and borrowed our laws, leading to its Peace Commission. Many States have sent delegations to study our model with a view to replicating same toward building harmonious coexistence in their domains. Benue State is about setting up a Peace Commission. Nasarawa State is in the process as well. Adamawa state has set up one,” Lengmang said during a capacity training for staff of the agency in Jos.

Lengmang gave credits to the State Governor, Simon Lalong for the successes of the agency.

“Most precious approaches to violent conflicts were reactive. But His Excellency studying that thought there was a need for change and therefore he came up with the idea of the Peace Building Agency to foster peaceful resolution of conflicts and harmonious coexistence among ethno-religious groups, as against waiting for conflicts to occur before deploying securities,” said the Official.

The training aims to upgrade staff’s capacity to reconcile communities in conflict, he said. The staff according to him have performed exceptionally in driving the agency’s objectives without specific policy training.

Governor Simon Lalong, in the words of the State’s Head of Civil Service, Mr. Izam Azi values staff training in the running of government.

The Governor, Mr. Izam said through an Official of the State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Sarah Ngoche, “Has found staff training and retraining as very important in his human capital development policy thrust.”

Training the agency’s staff on “contemporary issues and challenges that peace administrators are confronted with daily in the due discharge of their functions” was timely, said the Civil Service Chief.

The training lasting two days features lectures on public service rules, service schemes; appointment, promotion and discipline; sources of information in government business and record management among others.
