Yet to be identified assailants on Tuesday killed a disabled farmer, Mr. Iliya Samuel Kukor in Bokkos area of Plateau State.
Likely trailed from the market where he went for a transaction, Samuel, 40, was attacked in his house as he alighted from his wheelchair, Councillor representing Daffo Ward in the Bokkos Local Government Legislature, Akullum Zakka said.
“He shouted for help but no one came out because it was late and given the insecurity that has persisted in the area for over three years now, everyone was afraid,” he said.
The attackers are unknown, said Akullum, but locals suspect Herdsmen did it.
“We cannot exactly say who the perpetrators are, but the attack is one amongst many,” said Akullum.
A native of the village, Mr. Danjuma Mabas, said the slain farmer never had rifts with fellow countrymen. He was however an aspirant for Youth leadership in the area last year.
“Several attacks have occured in this community since 2018 and people have gotten used to a particular name whenever such things happen. We are trusting securities to investigate and unmask who the attackers are, but for now they remain unknown,” said Mabas, a former Councillor.
On the same night of the attack, two villagers were killed in Bassa area, 40kms North of Bokkos.
They were ambushed on a motorbike near a military checkpoint in Maiyanga village of Kwall District, it was gathered.
At least three similar ambushes occured in the same location between February and March this year.
No Official comment has been received on the Bokkos and Bassa killings. Inquiries sent to the Plateau State Police spokesperson had yet to be answered as of publishing time.
