COVID-19: Plateau Official admits wrongdoing after crowded birthday celebration

The Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State, Yusuf Machen, last week held a crowded birthday celebration, raising social media backlash.
Photographs from the event held in the Chairman’s Office in Bokkos show people without facemasks or gloves, standing shoulder-to-shoulder round a table cake.
The Chairman had two weeks ago launched a COVID-19 control team with himself as lead authority.
The non-adherence to social distancing during his birthday celebration, therefore, Machen admitted, Tuesday, was “wrong as it violates the health advise of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the directives of the Government.”

“The Executive Chairman Chief Hon. Yusuf Machen tenders his unreserved apology to the people of Bokkos Local Government and Plateau State.
“The Chairman acknowledge concerns by well meaning persons from Bokkos and beyond on the issue as it relates to the global pandemic.
“He assures that such action which is a latent consequence of a surprised birthday celebration organized by his campaign directorate will not happen again,” Machen said in a press statement through his media aide, Mangut Mafyai.
