Niger State Officials have traced and quarantined a fleeing suspected COVID-19 patient with 27 people he’d come in contact with.
Blood sample of the suspected patient along with the others have been collected for examination, State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Mohamned Maku Sidi said, Tuesday while inspecting a COVID-19 isolation centre in Minna.
The 59year old suspected patient, Dr. Sidi said arrived from Lagos to Mashegu area of the State exhibiting symptoms thought to be of covid-19.
The community, according to the Commissioner reported the case to authorities but the man escaped.
“He and all the passengers on the truck he boarded to escape have been quarantined in Minna isolation centre for close monitoring,” Sidi said.
Chairman of the State COVID-19 Taskforce and Secretary to the Niger State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said survielance has improved at the closed State borders to prevent fresh cases.
He added that although there was no confirmed covid-19 case in Niger there yet, government was not relaxing its guard.
Matene who encourage people to willingly obey the state lockdown, said, the police had been mandated to arrest and prosecute any person who disobeyed the order.
