Covid-19 cases in Plateau now 421; Commissioner, Chief of Staff included

Nigeria on Saturday recorded 603 new cases of Covid-19, bringing to a total of 28,167 confirmed in the country.

According to figures released by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control,
11,462 patients have been discharged so far while 634 have died.

Of this figure, Plateau has 421 cases, out of which 190 are active, 219 have been discharged and 12 have died.

Among those active in the State are the State Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Mr. Abe Aku and the Chief of Staff to Governor Simon Lalong, Mr. Noel Donjur.

The Chief of Staff tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday after Mr. Aku was confirmed positive on Wednesday and a general test was ordered by the State Governor for all Executive Council members.

All other members of the State EXCO tested negative except the Chief¬† of Staff who is “asymptomatic and in good condition,” a press statement from the State Commissioner of Information, Dan Manjang says.

The COS is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed treatment center in Jos, while members of his family and other contacts are being traced and tested, Manjang said.

Personal aides of the Governor, Permanent Secretaries, heads of parastatals as well as other senior civil servants have also conducted the test are awaiting the results, the Commissioner said.
