The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) on Friday asked Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau State to use his position as the new Northern Governors Forum Chairman to “uphold the rule of law and bring peace and stability in the region.”
In a communiqué after its 96th General Church council meeting, Friday in Jos the capital of Plateau State, the Church expressed worry over growing insecurity in Northern Nigerian States of Nasarawa, Kaduna, Zamfara and Borno states.
The communiqué read by its President, Rev. Dr. Dachollom Datiri also called on the Federal and state governments to take proactive measures to forestall the “inhuman acts.”
“Human life is too precious to be wasted casually,” it says.
The Church also tasked government at all levels to take seriously their constitutional responsibilities by restoring and rehabilitating Internally Displaced Persons across the country.
“Many of them are left to fend for themselves in terms of feeding and accommodation,” said the Church.
The document also condemned the Nigerian government’s “nonchalant attitude” towards the release of Leah Sharibu and the remaining Chibok schoolgirls who have been in Boko Haram captivity for years now
