Christian Pilgrims officials set committee to solve Southern Kaduna conflicts

The Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) on Thursday launched a multicultural peace dialogue committee to resolve conflicts between farmers and herders in Southern Kaduna.

Ten people – five each from native Christian and Muslim Fulani herder communities were grouped in the first-ever local mediation team during a “Southern Kaduna Peace Summit” organized by the NCPC in partnership with the Southern Kaduna natives.

They will organize peace summits, facilitate reconciliatory meetings between parties in conflict, as well as identify and solve issues causing conflicts in the area, officials say.

“We have organized a peace summit but it is their project now. They will be responsible for gathering issues and needs at the grassroots and recommending to us for further actions,” the NCPC Executive Secretary, Rev. Dr. Yakubu Pam told Journalists.

Capable individuals and groups, should, according to Pam, partner with the team and NCPC to provide relief for families affected by violence in the locality.

Conflicts between farmers and herders have claimed hundreds of lives and devastated communities in Southern Kaduna for nearly two decades.

The two-day Peace Summit themed “deescalating violence in Southern Kaduna” held in Throng Room Trust Ministry Kafanchan, in Jema’a Local Government Area is expecting unprecedented results with the new grassroots peace committee.
