The Chief Whip of the Senate and former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu has opposed zoning ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 Presidential elections.
The post, Kalu said, Monday, is open to anyone willing to contest.
“Zoning is not constitutional, and is not contained in the constitution of the All Progressives Congress,” said the Senator in Minna, the Niger State capital.
Speaking shortly after meeting with Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar at their private residences in Minna, Kalu said, “Zoning is a party issue, every party has the right to say where it wants a position to be zoned to, but in APC, there is no issue of zoning.”
Be that as it may, insecurity, he said is Nigeria’s biggest challenge, not zoning.
Sabotage in the security system, according to him must be addressed to beat the challenge.
He said, “Security is a big challenge to everybody and the Senate is going to address this issue. Insecurity has defied any solution. I see a lot of sabotage in this issue of insecurity and I can assure you that the Senate will address the issue of sabotage.”
